Help The People Of Sderot, Israel
From the Magen David Adom
Website (www.afmda.org):
Life has returned to what passes for “normal” in Sderot and the news media and dignitaries have all left the city. Who is left? The city’s 25,000 residents and Magen David Adom. Magen David Adom ambulances still line HaHistadrut Street and paramedics and ambulance drivers operate in shifts around the small, aging MDA Station, waiting for the Tseva Adom (Color Red) siren. “Normal” in Sderot means fi ve or six Qassam rockets a day and a few mortar shells. Every time the sirens go off, people run for safe rooms and wait in fear, listening for the explosion and praying it will be far away in an open fi eld or better yet, fall short of the border with Gaza. Magen David Adom is on constant alert, mobilizing to answer the call every time they are alerted of an attack. Even when no one is physically injured by a rocket, MDA medics are constantly treating people for shock and anxiety. Day and night, Magen David Adom is on guard, working to keep the people of Sderot safe. Sderot is located only one kilometer from the Gaza Strip. In the last six years more than 4,000 Qassam rockets have been launched from Gaza.

Interested in Connecting to More Temple Chai Members

Have you been a member now for a while, but just don’t feel very connected Still don’t really know very many people Not quite ready to run for the Board of Directors, but don’t want to be a wallflower either If you are not currently a member of a chavurah, maybe it’s time to join one. You just fill out a very simple application, turn it in to the temple, and wait to hear from me.

Generally what happens is this: I will collect applications over the summer and through the High Holy Days, a time period when we get the most new members. Then, right after the holidays, I will make up chavurah groups...they consist of about 6-8 family units and are put together by the ages of the adults, as well as the ages of the children if applicable. You will then receive an invitation to your first meeting, at which I will give your group about a 45 minute shpiel, a “recipe for success.”

After that, your group will meet approximately once a month to do many different things together – from celebrational to educational, temple or community related, with and without children, and hopefully, with time, your group will meld into an extended family and enjoy many great years together. We have about 25 successful chavurot in existence right now. Some have been together for almost 20 years, others just started last year. Give it a try!

If you are already in a chavurah and would like more members,

call the temple office, 602-971-1234.
